WHAT'S NEW?

Over the years I spent pursuing my degrees, I have had the pleasure of inroducing other people to the field of Materials Engineering and its many facets and disciplines. Most of this has been through the ~400 students I have taught in the Engineering Design V Lab (materials lab). In particular, there are two areas which are of interest to me: the visual presentation of data (graphing) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD).

Manupulation of numbers in a visual format to convey and explore information has always fascinated me. It is one of the most powerful tools available to an individual when communicating concepts to others. It was with some significant alarm, then, when I observed how many students were doing a mediocre job of presenting thier data. This spawned a new module for the Design V lab, and since very little guidance between the very simple and the very complex is to be found on the web, I have made it available in "Graphing and the Visual Presentation of Data", listed under Graphing Guidelines.

My graduate work has focussed on thin films, most of which were deposited by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). While semicondutor fabrication has pretty good coverage on the web, very little is available which ties the equipment and concepts together to explain how a system works. With a little time here and there, I am attempting to fill this void with a specialty site on CVD systems.
